REVISION : EL FUTURO (FUTURE TENSE)

REVISION :  EL FUTURO (FUTURE TENSE)
 CLASS - 7

Last year in class 6, we studied present tense in Spanish. We learnt to conjugate verbs in present tense and frame simple sentences. This year we will be covering Past and Future Tense.

Before we start our topic, lets take a quick recap of verbs from last year :

a) There are two types of verbs :   - regular and irregular
b) Verbs are divided into three categories : ar ending, er ending and ir ending.

  ej. Hablar, Comer, vivir

c) To conjugate the verbs in present tense, we first remove the ending of the verb then add the following

ej. Hablar - Yo hablo tres lenguas

Él vive en Estados Unidos de America

Comer - Tú comes papas fritas

                  Ella come toda la comida

Vivir -  Nosotros vivimos en Nueva Delhi

                  Vosotros vivís en Nueva Delh

El futuro or The future fense

El futuro or the future tense is used to tell what “will” happen, or what “shall” happen. The future tense expresses actions that have not yet occurred or that will occur at a later time.

Lets look at regular verbs in future tense first

Regular verbs in the future tense are conjugated by adding the following endings to the infinitive form of the verb:

-é, -ás, -á, -emos, -éis, -án.

 Important notes to remeber :

1) we have only one set of endings for all kind of verbs
2)  Unlike present tense, we do not remove the ending in future tense]

Now let's see how we will conjugate verbs in future tense

Por ejemplo :

To conjugate "hablar", which is an ar ending we are going to use the same set of ending mentioned above

hablaré
hablarás
hablará
hablaremos
hablaréis
hablarán

We are going to use the same endings for "Comer", which is an er ending verb.

Comeré
Comerás
Comerá
Comeremos
Comeréis
Comerán

Once again we are going to use the same ending for "Vivir", which is an ir ending verb

Viviré
vivirás
vivirá
viviremos
viviréis
vivirán

Let's look at this video to understand how to conjugate verbs in future tense
Click➤➤https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0MkzT8gBz4&t=163s

Let's look at some simple sentences

I will speak
Yo hablaré

I will eat
Yo comeré

Alejandro will live in Spanish
Alejandro vivirá  en España.

My father will cook
Mi padre cocinará

{all of you immediately take 60 seconds to memorise the endings of future tense  : -é, -ás, -á, -emos, -éis, -án.}

Now all of you have to conjugate the following verbs in future tense and write 2 sentences with each verb using different subjects, i.e. Do not use "yo" form in all the sentences.

a) Buscar (to look)  : _____________________________________________________
b) levantar (to get up) : _______________________________________________________
c) beber ( to drink) :  _______________________________________________________
d) abrir ( to open) : ___________________________________________________
e)  decidir ( to decide) : _______________________________________________________

Q. Translate the following sentences in spanish

a) I will go to school: ______________________________________________

answer and explanation -

Let's first figure out the subject

"I" is the subject, right ?

Now "I" is first person and singular. Right ?

Very good, now let's see the endings for future tense

-é, -ás, -á, -emos, -éis, -án.

Now read the sentence again,

The subject is being followed by will, that means, It is in future.

Now the verb in this sentence is "Go", in spanish the verb for "to go" is "ir".

Now we have to conjugate Ir according to the subject, which is 1st person and sigular ( Yo form)

So it will be :

Yo Iré a la escuela

b) You will wash your hands  : ____________________________________________

answer and explanation -

Let's first figure out the subject

"You" is the subject, right ?

Now "You" is secind person and singular. Right ?

Very good, now let's see the endings for future tense

Singular
Yo - é
tú - ás
 el/ella/usted - á

Plural
Nosotros - emos
vosotros - éis
ellos/ellas ustedes -án

Now read the sentence again,

once again the subject is being followed by will, that means, It is in future.

Now the verb in this sentence is "wash", in spanish the verb for "to go" is "lavar".

Now we have to conjugate lavar according to the subject, which is 2st person and sigular ( tú form)

So it will be :

Tú te lavarás tus manos

Now all of you translate the following sentences

c) He will drink milk : ______________________________________________
d) Pablo will play  : ______________________________________________

e) We will dance : ______________________________________________

Eso es todo por el día!
Buenos dias y gracias chicos !
Cuídate bien y no olvida a lavar sus manos.
Hasta Pronto en la próxima clase de español !
Adios!

Buena suerte caballeros!
